I believe gratitude is important and has many benefits but only if it’s genuine. If you are truly struggling and you dismiss your pain and try to muster up a gratitude list when you are drowning in emotions, then it’s more harmful than helpful. If you can acknowledge your pain and journal what you are experiencing you can purge it and gratitude means so much more after doing that. And it is never good to be dismissive of your pain. You can grieve and be grateful at the same time. I did write something about this recently.
