The Body-Shaming Must Stop Now!
Does body-shaming help?
Last night when I was scrolling through TikTok, some so-called fitness coach said that fat-shaming is the best motivation. What?!?!?
I actually created a video congratulating him for being responsible for so many more people potentially developing eating disorders.
Since puberty, I can tell you that the fat-shaming I endured only contributed to my mental illnesses and struggles with low self-esteem as someone who has struggled with weight.
It did not motivate me to lose weight.
I was an overweight teenager, and I ended up in obesity territory in my 30s as a caregiver depression contributed to that too.
But I no longer want to be obese, and all of the body shaming in the world that I endured has nothing to do with me saying that.
My daughter needs me, and God-willing, one day I’ll be a grandma to her kids. No pressure on her, of course. But if I’m blessed enough for that to happen, I don’t want to be that grandmother stuck on the sofa lying around because of not having energy from being overweight.
Also, I want to do more traveling and have the energy to do other things that I want.
Because I’ve had to deal with many body shaming, I’ve never had a good relationship…
