The truth is my family is very small and extended family is dysfunctional. I have a complex relationship with my parents but as they are aging and have found ways to redeem themselves in many ways I do spend time with them. However my only brother is estranged and so are his kids. My son with complex special needs is estranged as he’s much better off at a group home and I’m happy he’s doing well but it’s for the best it’s this way. I have my daughter and thankful for that but blood doesn’t always mean family.
