They have to be creative with reasoning, lest they realize how horrible it makes them.

With mental illness, it's similar to homosexuality - people have to believe that it is a choice or they'll have to accept that they're just awful to people for no good reason, making them terrible people. They have to believe the "other" deserves the ridicule.

It's frustrating and sick.
People love to hate.
